My grandmother, 93, is stricken with Alzheimer’s, walks (barely) with a cane, has difficulty getting herself dressed, and often can’t follow conversations. But. But put in front of her grand piano and everything drops away and she is herself, playing by ear, composing masterpieces, flowing with the notes. She is strong and fluent. Yet when the music stops, she speaks with the voice of a young child, unsure and confused, crying to go home. It is painful to watch. I just want her to keep playing. (Taken with instagram)
